Banner Health published a blog post last week that said “people with testicles” — rather than men or males — can receive vasectomies.

“Permanent birth control isn’t a decision that only affects cisgender women,” said the post. “It is equally a concern for cisgender men, transgender and gender-expansive people and intersex people.”

“For people with testicles, a vasectomy is the most effective permanent birth control option outside of abstinence (not having sexual intercourse).”

The blog post, titled, “Should I Get a Vasectomy? Five Myths Debunked,” was published on June 13, 2023 and written by contributing writer Regan Olsson. 

The Urology Care Foundation says the testicles are “two male organs that make sperm and male hormones.” 

On April 6, 2023, the American Urological Association posted an article that said testicular cancer is “the most common cancer in men aged 15-44.” 

Brittanica.com defines the testicle as “the organ that produces sperm, the male reproductive cell, and androgens, the male hormones.” 

Headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz., Banner Health operates in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming. The company's website says it has more than 50,000 employees and is the largest private employer in Arizona.

Peter Fine has been the company’s CEO since November 2000. In 2019, the Arizona Republic reported that Fine “earned a total of $25.5 million in gross pay in 2017.” 

Banner’s chairman of the board is Quentin P. Smith, Jr., who works as president of Phoenix-based management consulting firm, Cadre Business Advisors, LLC.
