Kari Lake, U.S. Senate Candidate for Arizona, stated that the Biden-Harris administration is responsible for millions of illegal border crossings while American cities are experiencing rising crime and a housing crisis. Lake gave her statement to the Grand Canyon Times on August 12.
"Joe Biden and Kamala Harris opened the border and facilitated millions of illegal border crossings as American cities faced rising crime and housing crises," said US Senate Candidate Kari Lake, U.S. Senate Candidate in Arizona. "The only way they were able to get away with this was because of their cowardly enablers in Congress like Ruben Gallego. Arizona deserves a Senator who will always fight to keep them safe, even if it means standing up to those in their own party. Radical Ruben has proven that he's not capable of that."
According to AZ Family News, the Phoenix Police Department's 2024 Crime Reduction Plan targets a significant rise in violent juvenile crimes and the escalating fentanyl crisis. Juvenile violent crime rates are up 76%, including homicides and robberies, and fentanyl now accounts for 80% of drug-related cases. Strategies include increasing arrests for fentanyl distribution, enhancing youth education on gun violence and drug abuse, and using new technology and community partnerships to improve enforcement efforts.
In FY24, the U.S. Border Patrol has seen 1,821,652 encounters at the border, according to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website.
Fox News reported that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has temporarily suspended a Biden administration parole program that permits up to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to legally enter the U.S. each month after uncovering fraud in sponsor applications. An internal investigation found fraudulent forms with repeated use of Social Security numbers and ZIP codes by multiple sponsors. House Speaker Mike Johnson said: "This program should have never existed in the first place. It’s just another way the Biden-Harris administration has welcomed hundreds of thousands of aliens into our country, unchecked." DHS said that while the beneficiaries of the program undergo vetting, the suspension is intended to review and enhance the sponsor application process.
According to E.J. Antoni in an op-ed for The Washington Times, the ongoing housing affordability crisis is often attributed to government overspending and interest rate manipulation but "open-border policies" have also played a role in driving up home prices. Over the past 3.5 years, millions of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. have increased housing demand, particularly in areas where state and local governments have provided additional housing subsidies. This surge in demand has contributed to a doubling of the median monthly mortgage payment. "If Americans want their housing market to stabilize," Antoni said, "the flood of illegal aliens across the southern border must cease."
