Senators Janae Shamp and David Gowan have introduced new legislation in Arizona aimed at addressing border-related issues. The proposed "Arizona Border Invasion Act," sponsored by Senator Shamp, seeks to define three border-related crimes and establish corresponding penalties. The act would authorize law enforcement officers at various levels to arrest individuals who enter the state illegally, have been denied entry, or refuse to leave after being ordered due to these offenses.

Senator Gowan's "Aggravated Unlawful Flight" bill proposes stricter penalties for drivers who endanger others while fleeing from law enforcement. This includes increased consequences for those causing harm during high-speed chases or transporting children under 15 years old.

"Joe Biden and his administration have made it unequivocally clear that they have abandoned their duties to enforce immigration policy at the federal level," stated Senator Shamp. She emphasized the negative impact on communities and urged bipartisan support for the legislation.

Senator Gowan described the situation as "the worst border crisis in U.S. history," highlighting various crimes associated with illegal entries into Arizona. He called for legislative action to empower local law enforcement and protect communities.

The proposed bills aim to provide more resources and authority to law enforcement amid what Senators Shamp and Gowan describe as a growing crisis at the border.
