In a recent development, Senator David Farnsworth has highlighted alarming findings about Arizona's transportation infrastructure. A report revealed that five of the ten deadliest intersections in the Western United States are located in Maricopa County, Arizona. The data, spanning 18 years, showed a near doubling of fatal intersection-related crashes.
Senator Farnsworth expressed concern over the current state of Arizona's roadways. "Far too many of Arizona's roadways are filled with potholes, bumps, cracks, loose gravel, or other unstable surfaces. Some may not have adequate lighting; others may not have appropriate signage or traffic signals," he stated. He emphasized the need for improvements to create safer conditions for drivers and stressed the importance of securing funding reforms to enhance roads and highways.
Mayor Nancy Smith from the City of Maricopa echoed these concerns. "The safety of our residents is our top priority, and many of our state highways require urgent upgrades," she said. She pointed out SR 347 as a critical route needing expansion and safety enhancements and expressed gratitude for Senator Farnsworth's commitment to finding solutions.
