Arizona's minimum wage is set to rise to $14.35 per hour starting January 1, 2024. This marks a 50-cent increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, Flagstaff's local ordinances have determined a higher rate of $17.40 per hour for small business owners.
Chad Heinrich, NFIB State Director, expressed concerns about the impact of these wage increases on small businesses in a discussion with Chamber Business News. He noted that "job creators are already grappling with increased costs thanks to an inflation rate that remains stubbornly high." Heinrich further explained that despite the low unemployment rate leading employers to compete for talent by offering higher paychecks, "market forces are leading to increased wages – mandates just make hiring more expensive."
