The House of Representatives has passed H.R.837, a bill introduced by Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ). This legislation aims to transfer land from federal to local control, allowing Gila County, Arizona, to operate a veterans center on 232 acres in Young, Arizona. The center will be the first of its kind in northern Arizona, offering resources and support primarily to rural veterans and their families.

Rep. Crane highlighted the importance of this land transfer: "This veterans center is so crucial for rural veterans in northern Arizona who selflessly served our nation. I’m grateful to see my colleagues in the House recognize the significance of this land transfer." He expressed appreciation for House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman's leadership and looked forward to the bill's advancement in the Senate.

Chairman Bruce Westerman commented on the bill's impact: "America’s veterans and their families have sacrificed so much to defend our freedom, and Congress must do everything in its power to provide our servicemembers with proper care and opportunities." He noted that Rep. Crane has been a leader on these issues.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and former Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ) contributed to this bipartisan effort during the 117th Congress. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) has led similar efforts in the Senate.

Gila County Supervisor Woody Cline testified before the House Natural Resources Committee about the significant impacts and resources the center would provide for veterans and their families in the region. During questioning, he emphasized the importance of having such a facility accessible not only locally but also for state members, national members, and nearby communities like the White Mountain Apache Tribe.

Speaking with Supervisor Cline about the project's purpose, Rep. Crane said: "One of the things I love so much about this project is that you’re not coming here... asking the federal government for any money."

Supervisor Cline added: "This site will only be one of two sites in Arizona... It means everything to these folks."
