The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced the closure of eastbound Interstate 10 between State Route 51 and US 60 for bridge work. The closure will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, February 7, and is expected to last until 4 a.m. on Monday, February 10.
During this period, several ramps will also be closed. These include the ramp from southbound I-17 to eastbound I-10, the westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramp to eastbound I-10, and the ramps from southbound SR 51 to eastbound I-10. Additionally, the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at Jefferson Street and the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) ramp from eastbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202 will be inaccessible.
Further closures from Friday evening through early Monday morning include on-ramps at Third and Seventh Streets, Buckeye Road, as well as ramps at various other streets including McDowell Road.
ADOT recommends detours via eastbound Loop 202 or southbound Loop 101 for those needing access beyond the closure area. Drivers can also use westbound routes like US 60 or Loop 202 (Santan Freeway). For those traveling from West Valley towards Southeast Valley, using Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) is advised.
Motorists are encouraged by ADOT to stay informed about potential changes due to weather or unforeseen circumstances by using available resources such as "the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project’s free mobile app" or visiting their website's Alerts section.
This project is part of a broader initiative identified in Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan and funded by Proposition 400 passed in Maricopa County in 2004. The project aims to improve travel times during peak hours, enhance airport access, support ridesharing and transit options, and prepare for future regional growth.
