The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a closure of northbound State Route 143 between Interstate 10 and Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) from 10 p.m. on Friday, March 21, to 4 a.m. on Monday, March 24. This closure is due to a traffic shift. During this period, the I-10 ramps leading to northbound SR 143 will also be closed.
Additional closures include the northbound SR 143 on-ramp at University Drive and northbound 48th Street between Broadway Road and I-10, starting from 8 p.m. on Friday, March 21, until 4 a.m. on Monday, March 24.
For those traveling westbound on I-10, ADOT recommends using westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to access southbound SR 143. Eastbound I-10 travelers are advised to take eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway), then westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) for access to southbound SR 143.
Motorists heading towards Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport via southbound I-17, westbound I-10, or westbound US 60 should use westbound I-10 for airport entrances at either 24th Street or Buckeye Road. Alternatively, they can use the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance from westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).
ADOT advises drivers to use designated detours during state highway closures and reminds that schedules may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. For current information about restrictions and closures, motorists are encouraged to download the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project’s free mobile app, TheCurve, or visit the project website's Alerts section before traveling.
The I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan. It is funded by a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in Proposition 400 in 2004. The project aims to reduce travel times on I-10 during peak hours, improve airport access, support ridesharing and transit options, and prepare the region for future growth projections.
