Vaccinations have greatly contributed to public health advancements, significantly reducing the prevalence of tetanus, diphtheria, and rubella over the past 75 years. These diseases, once common, can lead to severe health issues without the protective barrier provided by vaccines.
The decline in childhood vaccination rates in recent years poses a threat to public health, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. To address this concern through education and advocacy, the Arizona Department of Health Services has partnered with the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Arizona Partnership for Immunization to launch the Healthy Horizons video series.
This initiative is designed to provide Arizonans with direct insights from pediatricians across Arizona about the benefits of vaccination. The series aims to empower individuals by offering knowledge that will aid in making informed decisions regarding personal and community health.
James Washington, CEO of the Arizona Partnership for Immunization, stated, “The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI) is proud to support the Healthy Horizons campaign. Vaccines are among the most critical public health innovations—comparable to clean drinking water.”
Anne Stafford, CEO of AzAAP, highlighted the campaign's impact, stating, “Immunizations are a safe and effective way to protect children from disease. We are incredibly proud of the passion and dedication of these pediatricians, including AzAAP chapter leaders and members, and we know their stories will inspire and inform.”
Vaccines prevent an estimated 42,000 deaths each year in the United States, underscoring their effectiveness as a tool to safeguard public health. The collaboration between the organizations emphasizes the importance of recognizing the role of vaccines in cultivating healthy communities.
Arizonans are encouraged to engage with the Healthy Horizons campaign to understand the value of vaccines from trusted healthcare professionals.
