Arizona Public Service (APS) plans to issue a one-time bill credit for customers in May 2025, focusing on those participating in the Environmental Benefits Surcharge. The proposal is pending approval by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), which will hold a vote on April 22.

The surcharge supports initiatives like renewable projects, energy efficiency programs such as Limited Income Weatherization, customer and load management programs, and the Virtual Power Plant program. APS Director of Customer Technology, Kerri Carnes stated, “These are renewable projects, energy efficiency programs like Limited Income Weatherization (which refers to modifying a home or building to improve its resistance to the effects of weather), customer and load management programs and our Virtual Power Plant program.”

The credit arises from APS meeting program goals efficiently, coupled with funds collected from increased energy usage due to warmer weather and a rising number of new customers. Additionally, programs such as Green Power Partners have succeeded, generating additional revenue to benefit customers. APS suggests the credit be issued as a single, larger payment rather than distributed over time.

For a typical household consuming 1,050 kilowatt-hours monthly, the proposed credit means a $23 reduction in May. The specific credit amount depends on individual energy consumption levels, with higher users receiving a greater credit.

APS encourages customers to manage energy expenses through various plans and tools. Options include Budget Billing to stabilize payments across the year, tools like the Most Economical Plan to assess cost-saving plans, and multiple rate plans to maximize savings during lower-cost periods.

APS also offers home energy evaluations and products through APS Marketplace, facilitating energy savings. Assistance programs and tips remain available, with APS advisors ready to assist customers in both English and Spanish.
