The Arizona Republican Party has filed a lawsuit requesting a recount at the precinct level.

The GOP requested an order to direct Maricopa County to “follow state statute.”

“The question here is one of statutory construction, and whether the Secretary of State’s Elections Procedure Manual is able to supersede Arizona’s state law. Arizona voters deserve complete assurance that the law will be followed and that only legal ballots will be counted in the 2020 election,” Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward said in a statement.

The issue at hand is one of Maricopa County opening up free-for-all voting centers across the county.

Traditionally voters cast their ballots at local precincts, according to the GOP.

The GOP noted there were 175 vote centers versus 748 precincts.

“Hand counting by precinct would therefore potentially result in a more precise sampling of votes,” the release from the GOP reads.
