Goodyear will house a 276,000-square-foot solar module facility near the city's airport.

“Our proprietary heterojunction cell technology and patented SmartWire module technology enable us to produce products of the highest quality and performance in order to offer our customers economically competitive solar components," Meyer Burger CEO Gunter Erfurt said, according to KOLD.

The location offers easy access to transportation networks.

KOLD reported that "its proximity also provides the company with a direct connection to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach."

Meyer Burger, the solar manufacturer, is based in Switzerland. It has plans to bring hundreds of manufacturing jobs to the West Valley by the end of 2022, and 500 jobs will be created after it runs at a 1.5-gigawatt capacity.

The company is aiming to help support the United States’ transition to clean energy, according to KOLD.

Solar modules are photovoltaic panels that are made up of several solar cells.

"The solar cells' efficiency and wattage output can vary, depending on the type and quality of solar cells used," Sunrun reported. "A solar module can range in energy production from 100 to 365 watts of DC electricity. The higher [the] wattage output, the more energy production per solar module. A solar array of modules consisting of higher energy-producing solar modules will, therefore, produce more electricity in less space than an array of lower-producing modules. However, the cost is higher for greater producing modules."

The plant will start producing about 400 megawatts worth of modules by the year's end, KOLD said.
