RNC Research shared a video interview where anchor Dana Bash from CNN asked Arizona gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs about her views on the limits of abortion. After Bash asked five times for her opinion, Hobbs instead claimed politicians and the government should not be involved in a decision on abortion. A Gallup poll found 50% of voters do not support late-term abortion.

“Arizona Democrat Katie Hobbs is asked FIVE TIMES if she supports ANY limits whatsoever on abortion-on-demand. She refuses to answer every single time,” RNC Research wrote in an Oct. 16 Twitter post referring to an attached CNN interview with Bash and Hobbs.

Hobbs is the Democrat candidate running for governor in Arizona. She went on CNN recently where host Dana Bash asked her, “Do you support any legal limits on abortion in Arizona?” Hobbs answered, “Look, the fact is right now we are under an extreme 15-week ban that limits health care options for women who need them. There’s a potential for a complete ban; right now that ban is in the courts.”

Hobbs continued claiming her opponent, Kari Lake, supports an abortion ban but was interrupted by Bash asking, “What do you support?” Hobbs said, “Uh look, when you’re talking about late-term abortion, that is incredibly extremely rare. If that conversation is happening it’s because something has gone incredibly wrong and politicians do not belong in that decision.” Again, Bash asked, “But what do you support, what should the limits be?” Hobbs: “The decision about abortion should be between a patient and their doctor.”

Bash attempted to clarify, saying, “So there should be no limits in the law?” Hobbs: “Government making these mandates interferes with doctors to provide care to their patients. They don’t belong in these decisions.” Bash said, “Just to be clear, if you become governor, you will push for a law that has absolutely no limits in any point of the pregnancy on abortion – that’s your position, that’s what you would want to be the law of the land in Arizona.” Hobbs replied, “The fact is right now we have very limited options and we need to get politicians out of the way and let doctors provide the care that they are trained to provide, the health care that their patients need.”

Hobbs said, “I will work tirelessly to increase access to safe and legal abortion services” on her campaign website.

In response to the CNN interview, Lake, the Republican running against Hobbs, tweeted out, “Katie Hobbs has gone on record TWICE now, confirming she wants abortion legal until the moment of birth. Insane. Disgusting. Horrific.”

According to the most recent Gallup poll on abortion views, 50% of respondents believe abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances. Thirty-five percent believe abortion should be legal in all circumstances and 13% believe abortion should be illegal in all circumstances. Two percent had no opinion. The Gallup poll also asked, “Do you think abortion should generally be legal or generally illegal during each of the following stages of pregnancy?” Seventy-one percent said illegal in the third trimester while 20% said legal.
