Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey left on his final state trip to Mexico Nov. 20.
The trip focused on growing "the $17 billion trade relationship" between the two, according to a press release from Ducey's office. Mexico is Arizona’s largest trade partner.
“Arizona and Mexico are more than just neighbors – we’re partners,” Ducey said in the release. “It’s been a priority since day one to nurture this trusted friendship. In terms of trade, Mexico is Arizona’s number one trading partner – it’s not even close. Beyond business, many people in Arizona have family ties in Mexico that go back generations. We have a mutual goal of bettering commerce, trade, security, and education.”
Arizona Commerce Authority President, Sandra Watson, and Danny Seiden, President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, went with Ducey on the trip.
"This trade mission is the culmination of eight years of working together," Ducey said in the release. "I look forward to exploring opportunities for further collaboration.”
Ducey posted updates from the trip on Twitter.
"Great to be in Mexico! This trade mission is the culmination of eight years of working together,” he wrote in a tweet Nov. 20. “I look forward to exploring opportunities for further collaboration."
Ducey also met with U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar.
"Mexico is more than just our number one trading partner — they are our neighbors," he wrote in another post. "Honored to celebrate our historic partnership and the bicentennial anniversary of U.S.-Mexico diplomatic relations with Ambassador Ken Salazar. @USAmbMex #200añosUSMX."
