A fund co-founded by Arizona author, publisher, and investor Chris Buskirk has invested in Tucker Carlson’s new media venture.
“Build the country you want to live in. That’s it. That’s always been it,” Buskirk posted on X, linking to a Wall Street Journal article about the investment. “That’s what Americans have done since the beginning.”
“That’s why we founded 1789 Capital,” he said.
The fund “aims to capitalize on the opportunities that it sees left open by the ‘wokeness’ of more traditional sources of capital," reported the Journal.
Co-founded by Buskirk, Omeed Malik, and Rebekah Mercer, 1789 Capital has an initial fund of $150 million, and made its initial investment this week in Last Country, Inc., the new media company founded by Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel.
“What we are focused on is opportunities that we think have developed in the market because other forms of institutional capital have become politicized,” Buskirk told the Journal.
Buskirk also is the publisher of American Greatness and author of the 2023 book, “America and the Art of the Possible: Restoring National Vitality in an Age of Decay.”
“We need to just embrace a culture of smart, aggressive, risk-taking,” Buskirk told host Leyla Gulen last month on the Grand Canyon Times Podcast.
Buskirk has founded, built, and successfully sold multiple finance businesses including in insurance, reinsurance, specialty lending, and tax-credit financing. For more than 15 years he has been an investor in growth stages companies across the financial services space as well as in real estate, digital marketing, consumer brands, and media.
