The House Ethics Committee has unanimously determined that Representative Sun exhibited a pattern of disorderly behavior. An ethics claim was lodged against her on November 2, and she tendered her resignation on January 31, mere hours before the commencement of the House floor session.

As reported by azmirror, following a protracted investigation into Sun's conduct, the House Ethics Committee pronounced her guilty of disorderly behavior. A resolution to expel Sun from office was put forward; however, she resigned from her post just a few hours prior to the opening of the floor. The Committee found that she had leveraged her position to influence the outcome of a child custody arrangement, intimidated a school superintendent, and threatened to kill a lobbyist associated with the city of Tolleson by throwing them off a balcony.

A press release from the Arizona House Democrats conveyed their gratitude towards the Ethics Committee for its diligent and transparent work on this report. They stated, "Our Democratic leadership team is grateful to the Ethics Committee for its diligent, intensive and transparent work on this report, and to the witnesses who came forward to share their stories under incredibly difficult circumstances. The facts are overwhelmingly clear and speak for themselves. Representative Sun engaged in a pattern of disorderly behavior that damaged the reputation of the House. This is a solemn day, but Representative Sun did what's best for our state and for the integrity of this body."

According to an article published by U.S. News, Garrick McFadden, an attorney representing Sun, sent a letter to the ethics committee refuting allegations that his client threatened to throw a Tolleson lobbyist off a balcony. McFadden conceded that Sun's threat to slap the lobbyist was credible and acknowledged that her actions concerning the child custody arrangement were inappropriate. It has been decided that Sun will be succeeded by an appointee chosen by Maricopa County Board of Supervisors who must belong to the same party as Sun.
