U.S. Senate candidate in Arizona, Kari Lake, stated that border policy has allowed the entrance of crime and drugs, turning Arizona into the "fentanyl state." The Lake campaign made the statement in a post on X on July 16.

"Gallego and the Democrats have handed control of Arizona's border to the cartels," said Lake. "Criminals and deadly drugs are pouring in. The Grand Canyon state is becoming the fentanyl state, and this mom's not ok with it."

According to the Maricopa County official website, fentanyl is the leading cause of drug deaths in Arizona. Since 2015, fentanyl-related deaths have risen by 4,900%. Most fentanyl in Arizona can be traced back to the Sinaloa Cartel.
