Senate Republicans in Arizona are actively engaged in negotiations as the 100th day of the legislative session approaches on April 16. They aim to finalize work on a number of bills, including a fiscally conservative state budget and critical reforms related to water management.

The Senate has around 40 bills pending, with significant focus on water supply reforms. Senator Sine Kerr is leading efforts on rural groundwater management through SB 1221, involving bipartisan meetings with leadership and government officials. In urban areas, over a dozen meetings have been held with stakeholders to enhance the assured water supply program. The Senate plans to advance three bills—SB 1181, SB 1081, and SB 1172—to address these issues next week.

Efforts are also underway for state agency continuations and improvements suggested by recent audits from the Arizona Auditor General. Additionally, negotiations are nearing completion for the "Teacher Pay Fund" plan aimed at increasing salaries for K-12 public school teachers.

Legislation focused on crime prevention linked to border issues remains a priority. If not approved by the Governor, Republican lawmakers may seek voter input through ballot measures in November.

Budget discussions between the Legislature and Executive began last week after delays from the Governor's office. Regular meetings will continue until an agreement is reached.

Senate President Warren Petersen stated: "With necessary negotiations on bills, state agency continuations, and a state budget, there is quite a bit of behind-the-scenes business that will need to be conducted at the Legislature between leadership and the appropriations teams before lawmakers can vote on any remaining reforms or proposals." He added that lawmakers would convene weekly for floor proceedings as legislation becomes ready for voting.
