No freeway closures are planned for the Phoenix area from April 18-21, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports. The agency urges drivers to prioritize safety, particularly in light of National Work Zone Awareness Week, happening from April 21-25.

ADOT emphasizes the importance of road safety, urging drivers to "commit to always being a safe driver, including in all work zones. Lives are on the line. Stay alert, obey reduced speed limits in work zones and be prepared to merge safely. Avoid distractions and never drive while impaired."

The department is engaged in various projects in the Phoenix area under the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County. The efforts are mostly funded by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax initiated in 2004. In November, local voters approved Proposition 479, extending the half-cent tax for future transportation projects in the region.

ADOT provides real-time highway information through its Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the az511 app available for both Apple and Android devices, or by calling 511.
