The founder of American Majority Action (AMA) congratulated Arizona House Speaker Steve Montenegro (R-Goodyear) and Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp (R-Surprise), both of whom were elected this week by their peers to their leadership positions.
“Congrats to newly elected AZ House Speaker Steve Montenegro and newly elected Arizona Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp,” AMA founder Ned Ryun posted on X. “Staunch American First Conservatives who consistently support President Trump’s agenda, and who are now leading the most conservative Arizona Legislative Majority in history. Great things to come in Arizona.”
Ryun is founder and CEO of AMA, an advocacy organization that wants to “put in place new conservative grassroots political infrastructure.” He recently released his latest book, “American Leviathan: The Birth of the Administrative State and Progressive Authoritarianism.”
AMA announced it made more than 3.25 million voter contacts in Arizona in the 2024 elections, including over 600,000 live conversations, as part of its push to increase conservative early voter turnout in the state, reported the Grand Canyon Times last week.
In the 2024 elections, Republicans increased their majority in the Arizona State Senate to 17 seats. The Democrats hold just 13 seats. Senate President Warren Petersen (R-Gilbert) will remain as the Senate President for his second consecutive term.
In the Arizona House, Republicans now hold 31 seats to the Democrats 29.
Montenegro was first elected to the Arizona House in 2008, representing District 12. He served until 2016 and then served one term in the Arizona Senate for District 13 from 2017 to 2018. In 2022, Montenegro was elected again to the Arizona House, representing District 29.
A former operating room nurse, Shamp was first elected to represent Arizona’s 29th Legislative District in Nov. 2022. A resident of Surprise, she graduated cum laude from Arizona State University and received her nursing degree, also graduating cum laude, from Grand Canyon University.
