PHOENIX, AZ — The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) has announced Nick Capozzi as the new State Broadband Director. Capozzi takes over from Sandip Bhowmick, who served in the role since February 2022 and is moving to a position in the private sector.
“We’re excited to welcome Nick in this important role during a time of immense activity and promise for Arizona broadband expansion efforts,” said Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Nick brings high-level experience and a close familiarity with Arizona’s broadband programs, and we look forward to welcoming him to the team.”
Capozzi transitions from his previous role at the Governor’s Office where he was Operations Advisor and State Infrastructure Coordinator. His involvement included statewide broadband planning and expansion efforts. Before that, he worked as a budget and grants analyst at the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting.
The position of State Broadband Director was established by the Arizona Legislature in 2018. The director oversees the State Broadband Office within the ACA. Current initiatives include several grant programs and strategic plans amounting to over $1 billion in funding.
“I’d also like to thank Sandip for his tremendous leadership in overseeing implementation of these expansive and transformative broadband programs,” added Sandra Watson. “We wish him well in his next role.”
Arizona is recognized as a leading state for its management of federal broadband programs. In 2024, it was ranked among the top four states by the American Enterprise Institute for broadband expansion based on transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
Capozzi will begin his duties as State Broadband Director on March 31.
