The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has issued a travel advisory for Phoenix area drivers this weekend due to several freeway restrictions.

Eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed between the State Route 51 "Mini-Stack" interchange and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. This closure is part of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. As a result, eastbound I-10 on-ramps between Third Street (downtown Phoenix) and Baseline Road will be closed. Additionally, the southbound I-17 connection to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport, along with southbound SR 143 ramps to eastbound I-10, will also be closed.

Drivers approaching the eastbound I-10 closure can use Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in Tempe to either westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) as alternate routes. Alternatively, they can take Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to connect with I-10 near Chandler Boulevard. Note that the southbound I-17 on-ramps at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street will also be closed during this period.

Meanwhile, westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed between Alma School and Dobson roads from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday for the removal of a message sign. The eastbound Loop 202 HOV lane will be closed between Dobson and Alma School roads. Drivers are encouraged to use Germann or Pecos roads as detours to get around the closure.

State Route 347 will be narrowed to one lane in both directions overnight at Cement Plant Road (Mammoth Way) and the Gila River Bridge north of Maricopa on Friday and Saturday nights for pavement maintenance. Similar lane restrictions will occur overnight at Casa Blanca Road on Sunday and Monday.

The closure schedules may change due to weather or other factors, as ADOT continues with construction projects under the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County. These projects are backed by Proposition 400, a sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. Proposition 479, approved last November, has extended the existing half-cent tax to finance future transportation improvements in the Phoenix region.

Drivers can access real-time highway conditions via ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the az511 app, or by calling 511.
