Mayo Clinic has announced plans for a substantial investment aimed at enhancing its Phoenix campus. The initiative involves a $1.9 billion investment, which is part of its broader Bold. Forward. strategy. This strategy is intended to transform the healthcare experience for both patients and staff by integrating new technology, along with the development of new care concepts and spaces.

The massive expansion will include the construction of a new procedural building and an expansion of the existing Mayo Clinic Specialty Building. Overall, the expansion will add 1.2 million square feet to the campus. Critical features of this expansion include the addition of 11 new operating rooms, two new patient units accommodating 48 beds, and an improved arrival experience for those visiting the campus.

Further, a two-story indoor promenade is planned to enhance patient and visitor experience as they navigate the campus. The design incorporates care neighborhoods to connect clinical services intuitively.

Mayo Clinic President and CEO Gianrico Farrugia stated, "Bold. Forward. Unbound. in Arizona is the final major building block of Bold. Forward. Unbound., our complete reimagining of our physical infrastructure to enable all of Bold. Forward." Richard J. Gray, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, noted that the investment would transform patient and staff experiences and reinforce the clinic's leadership in clinical care, research, and education. "Bold. Forward. Unbound. in Arizona will increase clinical space on the Phoenix campus by nearly 60 percent, allowing us to care for more patients than ever before," Dr. Gray added.

The design process for the Arizona expansion is set to begin this year, with completion expected in 2031. This expansion is part of a broader project with ongoing developments at other locations, including Rochester, Jacksonville, and recently completed projects in Mankato and La Crosse. Mayo Clinic is partnering with architectural and construction firms McCarthy, Gensler, and Arup Group, and plans to involve more collaborators as the project progresses.

In reflecting on the expansion, Dr. Gray emphasized the growing need for patient care driven by regional growth and the limitations of current infrastructure in meeting the medical needs of complex conditions: "We continue to believe that Arizona is a great place to advance new cures, new collaborations and Mayo's distinctive model of care."
