Arizona Western College, in Wellton, Arizona, has commenced construction of the Future48 Workforce Accelerator, a facility designed to advance local workforce skills. The 5,600-square-foot center aims to provide training in high-tech areas such as electrical technology, advanced manufacturing, broadband fiber optics, and solar installation.
The groundbreaking event was attended by Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, who remarked on the significance of the project, stating, "This groundbreaking represents a significant step towards a brighter future for Yuma County and all of Arizona. I’m proud to support initiatives like the Future48 Workforce Accelerator, which equips Arizonans with the skills needed for high-tech, high-growth careers."
Reetika Dhawan, CEO of Arizona Western Entrepreneurial College, emphasized the impact of the new facility: "The Wellton Workforce Accelerator is a game-changer for our region, driving economic growth, high-wage job creation, and industry innovation."
The project enjoys support from the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), which has contributed $3.6 million for its development. ACA President Sandra Watson highlighted the milestone, saying, "Today’s groundbreaking represents an exciting milestone for workforce development in Yuma County."
The Accelerator aims to strengthen Yuma's position in sectors such as aerospace, defense, and telecommunications through collaborations with industry partners like TRAX International and the United States Army Yuma Proving Ground. Randy Polage from TRAX International shared enthusiasm for the project's benefits, stating, "This facility will enhance AWC's ability to provide the critical skills necessary for Yuma's technical workforce."
The center is part of a broader initiative supported by a $30 million ACA investment to establish advanced training facilities throughout Arizona. Other similar projects are underway in Mesa, Phoenix, Pinal County, and Kingman.
