A section of westbound Interstate 10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is set for closure this weekend due to the ongoing Broadway Curve Improvement Project, as announced by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). Additional lane restrictions will affect westbound I-10 and westbound US 60. Motorists are advised to expect delays and consider alternative routes during the scheduled restrictions.

From 10 p.m. on Friday to 10 p.m. on Saturday, westbound I-10 will be closed between State Route 143 and the I-17 "Split" interchange as part of a traffic shift. Further, the highway will be reduced to two lanes between State Route 143 and 24th Street from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 4 a.m. on Monday. ADOT notes that restriction times are subject to adjustment. Approved detour routes include eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202. Northbound SR 143 will also be available as an alternative during the closure.

Westbound US 60 will narrow to one lane between Rural Road and I-10 from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday, while westbound I-10 will have a two-lane restriction between Guadalupe Road and State Route 143 during the same period. ADOT advises travelers to allow extra time and explore alternate routes. The on-ramp at Broadway Road to westbound I-10, along with the on-ramp at Mill Avenue to westbound US 60, will close from 8 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday.

Northbound SR 143 will close between I-10 and Loop 202 from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 4 a.m. on Monday to facilitate work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Detour options include using eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202 to reach the airport and southbound SR 143. Westbound I-10 remains an option for accessing the airport’s west entrance. The eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound SR 143 and northbound 48th Street between Broadway Road and I-10 will shut from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday.

The eastbound Loop 101 off-ramps at 51st and 35th Avenues are scheduled for an overnight closure from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday due to a widening project, with exiting advised at 59th Avenue.

ADOT's schedules may change due to weather conditions or other factors. Projects are part of the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County, funded partly by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved in 2004. Voters last November passed Proposition 479 to extend the half-cent tax for future projects in the Phoenix area.
