The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a closure of the southbound State Route 143 between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Interstate 10 for sign work. The closure will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 11, and is expected to end by 4 a.m. on Monday, April 14. As part of this work, the ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143 and the westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Sky Harbor Boulevard will also be closed.
Additional closures include the southbound SR 143 on-ramps at Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard, and University Drive. These will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, April 11, until 4 a.m. on Monday, April 14.
Detours have been established for motorists. For westbound Loop 202, travelers will be directed to use eastbound I-10 to access destinations south of the closure. Eastbound Loop 202 drivers are advised to use southbound Loop 101 to westbound US 60. For airport access, travelers should use southbound 44th Street from Loop 202.
ADOT has advised drivers to follow designated detours during highway closures. Schedules are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen situations. For timely updates, ADOT suggests downloading the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project’s free mobile app, TheCurve, or visiting the Alerts section of the project website.
The I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan. It is funded by a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters under Proposition 400. The project aims to reduce travel times on I-10 during peak hours, enhance airport access, and support ridesharing and transit in preparation for future growth.
