State schools chief Tom Horne, Representative Leo Biasiucci, other lawmakers, school-aged children, and health care advocates will gather for a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. The event marks the signing of HB 2164, a bill sponsored by Rep. Biasiucci that limits the use of ultra-processed foods in school campuses.

The legislation introduces restrictions on public schools from serving or selling food containing certain ingredients identified in scientific studies as harmful. These include potassium bromate, propylparaben, titanium dioxide, brominated vegetable oil, yellow dyes 5 and 6, blue dyes 1 and 2, red dyes 3 and 40, and green dye 3. This measure addresses increasing concerns about ingredients that may pose significant health risks to children.

The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 at the AZED offices located at 1535 W. Jefferson St., Phoenix. The event will also be available via livestream at youtube.com/azdeptofeducation.
