The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that three highways in the White Mountains area will reopen on Tuesday, April 15, marking the arrival of spring. The state highways, Routes 261, 273, and 473, are set to reopen by noon on that day after being closed for the winter season.

State Route 261 connects State Route 260 near Eagar with Big Lake. State Route 273 links SR 260 to Sunrise Park and Big Lake. Additionally, State Route 473 extends south from SR 260 on the White Mountain Apache Reservation.

ADOT has provided motorists with several tips to ensure safety while traveling in the mountains this summer. These include checking vehicle tire pressure, getting enough sleep before trips, and ensuring passengers are buckled in. They also advise against speeding and tailgating, and suggest bringing extra water and food, planning for additional travel time, and avoiding drinking and driving.

"Before you leave, check for information about highway restrictions across Arizona at ADOT's Traveler Information website, az511.gov, or dial 511," ADOT recommends.
