A recent win in the Arizona primary has paved the way for Sen. Martha McSally to take on Democrat Mark Kelly in the November general election, in a contentious battle for the Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. John McCain.
McSally was named the winner in the primary race not long after some of the first voting returns were counted, according to AZ Central.
The battle for the U.S. Senate seat, which is a major factor for Republicans in keeping control of the Senate, is now down to McSally and Kelly, who is a retired astronaut and combat veteran, according to AZ Central.
Both candidates are getting support from their key special interest groups, according to the article, with recent polls showing Kelly has a 12-point advantage over McSally and is also leading McSally in fundraising.
McSally, also a combat veteran, lost her Senate run in 2018 but was appointed to the Senate after the passing of McCain.
