Senate President Karen Fann (R-Prescott) and House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R-Mesa) signed onto a joint letter requesting an audit of Maricopa County’s election machines.
Voting machines produced by Dominion Voting Systems, which were used in Maricopa County, have been been plagued by concerns in Arizona.
House Committee on Elections Chairperson Michelle Ugenti-Rita (R-Scottsdale), and House Majority Leader Warren Petersen (R-Gilbert) also signed onto the letter.
“As a longtime advocate for improving and modernizing our election system, I am pleased to learn that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is supportive of conducting an independent audit of their voting software and equipment,” Ugenti-Rita said in a news release. “It is important we maintain all of the voting public’s confidence in our elections and this is a positive first step in the right direction.”
Gov. Doug Ducey was recently party to a lawsuit over issues with the voting hardware and software.
According to internal documents by the Maricopa County Board of Elections, voting machines company Dominion Voting Systems had a group of representatives on hand to oversee the election.
