To keep services going while the Grand Canyon Community Library is being renovated, Tusayan will offer library services at Town Hall.
The Grand Canyon Community Library has been in use since the 1920s and is part of the Grand Canyon Village, a National Historic Landmark. The former one-room schoolhouse, which is funded by Coconino County, announced its interior renovations on March 2, and they are expected to be completed by April 13. Until then, Tusayan Town Hall is serving as a temporary home.
“We are excited to announce that next week the town will begin hosting library services at Town Hall,” Tusayan Town Manager Charlie Hendrix said in a story on the Grand Canyon News website. “The park library staff will be here in our office during the construction of the park library.”
The library signed an Intergovernmental Agreement with the town of Tusayan to begin providing library services on March 11, including rentals and other community programs.
The Town Hall’s regular library hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Hendrix said. “Every Friday, there will be storytime at 11 a.m,” he added.
The town’s library services website is already running, featuring links to various resources for customers.
Tusayan Mayor Clarinda Vail emphasized that the town’s library services would be available for all area residents.
“I just want to be clear that anybody from the Grand Canyon, anybody from Valle (Grand Canyon Junction), anyone (in) Tusayan can use it,” she said. “It’s not just for Tusayan people, just the way the library in the park has been for all of us; our library services will be for everybody.”
