The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is making progress on a significant infrastructure project in Kingman, Arizona. The $106 million project aims to improve the interchange at Interstate 40 and US 93, a crucial route between Las Vegas and Arizona. Currently, the project is 25% complete.
One key feature under construction is a bridge that will allow traffic on US 93 to flow over Beale Street and downtown Kingman while maintaining access for drivers. Additionally, crews are working on creating a new roadway path through the bluffs north of the existing US 93 approach to I-40.
In another part of the project, south of US 93, earth and rocks are being removed for roadway widening. This material is repurposed as fill in other areas. Along I-40, two miles of sound walls are being constructed from Stockton Hill Road heading west. This aspect of the project will continue for another 18 months.
ADOT ensures that two lanes remain open in each direction during peak travel times, with lane restrictions occurring only during off-peak hours. Drivers can still exit both highways at Beale Street to reach local businesses and downtown Kingman.
The project's completion is expected by 2027 and will include six miles of widened or newly constructed roadway. Other features involve widening more than a mile of I-40 between the new interchange and Stockton Hill Road, adding a merge lane on northbound US 93, rehabilitating four bridges on I-40, building additional sound walls west of Stockton Hill Road, and constructing drainage features.
"The interchange is designed to handle projected traffic growth for the next 25 years," ADOT stated. For updates and more information about this development in Kingman, interested parties can visit azdot.gov/WestKingmanTI.
