Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) recently traveled to Taipei for a five-day trade visit to Taiwan and South Korea.

The purpose of the trip was to "focus on strengthening Arizona's well-established partnerships with the two Asian partners," according to a news release from the governor's office.

"Arizona has excellent relationships with Taiwan and the Republic of Korea," Ducey said in the news release. "The goal of this trade mission is to take these relationships to the next level – to strengthen them, expand them, and ensure they remain mutually beneficial."

The governor's agenda includes discussions regarding semiconductors, technology, security, and education, the news release noted.

"Arizona enjoys strong economic partnerships rooted in sectors such as technology and manufacturing – specifically within the semiconductor industry," Ducey said. "It is a privilege to once again be in Taiwan and visit our partners in the Republic of Korea to reaffirm our shared values and strengths. We look forward to building on the many opportunities ahead."

Arizona's bilateral trade totaled $1.92 billion with Taiwan and $882 million with South Korea in 2021, according to the news release. Ducey visited South Korea for the first time on this trip; he first visited Taiwan 17 years ago.

Other state officials joined Ducey on the trip, the news release noted. These guests included Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, and Danny Seiden, president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The group met with Joseph Wu Jau-shieh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, and Philip Seth Goldberg, U.S. ambassador to South Korea.
