Former Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) recently announced his next major focus to promote free enterprise across the nation.
On Twitter, he invited citizens to join his new Citizens for Free Enterprise organization.
"'So, Governor, what's next for you?' Well, my passion for economic freedom and opportunity is as strong as ever, and I'm thrilled to finally share my plans with you," Ducey wrote in a June 20 tweet.
In a video attached to the tweet, he recalled starting his career by launching Cold Stone Creamery and the economic progress he made as Arizona governor.
“The free enterprise system matters to me," Ducey said. "It’s what makes the American Dream truly possible for all. But lately free enterprise is under attack everywhere we turn. Bigger government, needless regulation and a push toward socialism. Americans must push back. That’s why I’m excited to announce the launch of a new national effort I’ve been asked to lead: Citizens for Free Enterprise. This important cause will be 100% focused on the promotion and preservation of our free enterprise system. Galvanizing everyday Americans from all walks of life around the founding principles that have made this the greatest country in the history of mankind. I hope you’ll join us.”
Free enterprise is the economic structure in which private businesses are not subject to government regulation.
“Citizens for Free Enterprise exists to act against threats to economic freedom and to tell the story of free enterprise’s importance in achieving the American Dream,” according to Citizens for Free Enterprise. To this end, the organization promotes opportunity, fighting bureaucratic overreach and defeating big government socialism.
“The Free Enterprise System has proven to be the single most powerful engine of prosperity,” Citizens for Free Enterprise said on its website. “We believe that free enterprise is the bedrock of a prosperous society, enabling economic growth, job creation and the betterment of people’s lives.”
According to Ballotpedia, Ducey served as the 23rd governor of Arizona. He was first elected in 2014 after former Gov. Jan Brewer (R) became ineligible due to term limits. He ran again in 2018 and successfully earned another four-year term, which meant leaving office in 2022 due to term limits. Prior to being governor, Ducey also served as the state treasurer of Arizona. He founded Cold Stone Creamery, an ice cream business based in Scottsdale, Arizona, which has since gone international.
