The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced several freeway closures in the Phoenix area this weekend due to ongoing improvement projects. These closures will affect parts of westbound Interstate 10 and northbound Interstate 17 from February 21 to February 24.
The westbound I-10 will be closed between the I-17 "Split" interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and the I-17 "Stack" interchange near McDowell Road. This closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for deck joint work as part of pavement improvements. During this time, drivers can detour via northbound I-17 to reconnect with I-10 at the Stack interchange. Additionally, some ramps will be closed, including the southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10.
Northbound I-17 will also be closed between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements. Drivers are advised to use Happy Valley Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway as detour routes.
Other restrictions include narrowing westbound I-10 to two lanes near Sky Harbor Airport for pavement maintenance related to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project, as well as closures on eastbound Loop 101 ramps for a widening project.
ADOT notes that schedules may change due to weather or other factors and encourages drivers to check real-time highway conditions on their Arizona Traveler Information site or app.
ADOT's improvement projects are part of the Regional Transportation Plan funded by Proposition 400, a sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004, with future funding extended by Proposition 479 passed last November.
