Arizona State Senate President Warren Peterson (R-Gilbert) announced a new “Teacher Pay Fund” proposal that would allow Arizona voters in a November 2024 ballot initiative to renew Proposition 123.

That proposition, which passed in 2016, increased education funding in Arizona by $3.5 billion over the course of ten years. That measure expires in 2025.

“This initiative will allow Arizona to be more competitive in teacher salaries, boosting teacher pay in Arizona above the national average, and making a big increase to starting teacher pay," said Petersen. "We believe we can continue this dedicated funding source long-term because the fund has already grown exponentially over the last eight years, even during tumultuous economic times."

A resident of Gilbert, Petersen graduated from Gilbert High School and received a bachelor's degree and J.D. from Arizona State University.

He was elected to represent Arizona’s 14th Senate District in the November 2022 elections, and previously represented the 12th Senate District since 2017. Peterson was a member of the state House from 2013 to 2017 and 2019 to 2021.
