The City of Sedona has released its monthly newsletter for January 2024, providing residents with updates on recent City Council meetings, upcoming events, and important announcements.

One of the key highlights from the City Council meetings was the appointment of Anette Spickard as the new City Manager. After a thorough interview process involving City Council, staff panels, and a community panel, Anette was selected for the position. City Council officially appointed her on January 23, and she will assume her role on April 8.

In terms of infrastructure development, the City Council approved a construction contract for the Historic Ranger Station Park shared-use path and parking lot. This project, estimated to cost $252,872.75, aims to enhance accessibility and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

Furthermore, the City Council directed staff to move forward with planning for the Safe Place to Park program. This initiative will provide a temporary parking area with showers and restrooms on City-owned property for vehicular homeless individuals and families with children who attend local schools.

During the meetings, the City Council also received updates on legislative bills at the state level and provided direction on their stance towards them. This demonstrates the City's commitment to staying informed and involved in the legislative process.

In addition to the City Council updates, the newsletter includes several announcements and events for residents to participate in. The Sustainability Department has launched the Sustainable Neighborhoods Pilot Program, inviting neighborhoods, HOAs, and organizations to take the lead on sustainability initiatives. An Open House on February 5th will provide more information about this program.

Art enthusiasts can mark their calendars for a southwest and indigenous art reception on February 8th. Paintings by Karen Taylor and paintings and ceramics by Mariann Leahy will be on display until May 2nd, accompanied by special music guest Nathan "Saith" Gangadean.

The Mayor's Arts Awards are also open for nominations. Residents are encouraged to nominate their favorite artists by March 25th.

For those interested in local governance, the City will hold its primary election on August 6th, with three council seats and the Mayor's seat up for grabs. Candidate nomination forms can be picked up at the City Clerk's Office from March 11th to April 8th.

The newsletter also mentions ongoing transportation projects aimed at improving traffic congestion and pedestrian circulation. Residents can sign up for monthly project updates via email.

To stay updated with the City's news and events, residents are encouraged to subscribe to the monthly newsletter and follow the City of Sedona on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
