The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a significant closure of westbound Interstate 10 in the Phoenix area this weekend as part of the ongoing I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. The closure will last from Friday night until early Monday morning and is one of several restrictions planned for freeway improvement projects.
The major closure affects westbound I-10 between Loop 202 near Chandler Boulevard and the I-17 interchange near Sky Harbor Airport. This section will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday, January 27. Additional closures include the westbound I-10 on-ramps at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and Chandler Boulevard, as well as ramps from westbound US 60 to westbound I-10.
ADOT advises drivers to consider alternate routes during this period. Options include detouring via eastbound Loop 202 to northbound Loop 101 or using westbound/northbound Loop 202 to reach I-10 in west Phoenix. Travelers coming from Tucson or Casa Grande are advised to bypass the closure by taking westbound I-8 to northbound SR 85 in Gila Bend.
Southbound State Route 143 will also be closed between Loop 202 and I-10 for the same project, with detours suggested via other routes including westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10.
In addition, eastbound Loop 101 will be narrowed overnight between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 for pavement maintenance, and the off-ramp at Arizona Avenue on westbound Loop 202 will be closed for bridge work.
These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions or other factors. ADOT continues its efforts under the Regional Transportation Plan funded by Proposition 400, with future projects supported by Proposition 479 approved by voters last November.
Real-time updates on highway conditions can be accessed through ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site or app.
