The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced closures for sections of Phoenix area freeways this weekend from April 11-14 due to ongoing construction projects. The southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed in north Scottsdale for widening work. The closure will occur between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Sunday.
ADOT advises drivers to use alternative routes like southbound State Route 51 to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to connect with southbound Loop 101 in Tempe. Other suggestions include exiting onto southbound Scottsdale Road and taking eastbound Shea Boulevard to reconnect with Loop 101. Additionally, the northbound Loop 101 High Occupancy Vehicle lane will be closed this weekend from Shea Boulevard to Bell Road. The northbound Loop 101 off-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will close from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, and its frontage road will be closed overnight starting at 9 p.m. Sunday.
The southbound State Route 143 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will also be closed between Loop 202 and Interstate 10 for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. This closure will commence at 10 p.m. Friday and last until 4 a.m. Monday. A recommended detour is via westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 starting at the SR 51 Mini-Stack interchange.
Moreover, the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Gilbert Road in the Southeast Valley will be closed for two months for reconstruction, starting at 11:30 p.m. Friday. Detours include the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Cooper or Lindsay roads.
ADOT notes that schedules may change due to weather or other factors. The department continues to implement transportation improvements in Phoenix under the Regional Transportation Plan. Most projects are funded by Proposition 400, a sales tax passed in 2004, with a recent extension approved via Proposition 479 last November.
