The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced the commencement of a project to widen a section of US 93 into a four-lane highway. This segment, located between Wikieup and Interstate 40, will span 4 miles. The initiative aims to enhance the two-lane undivided highway between mileposts 106 and 110. The $80.6 million project is anticipated to extend into 2027.
ADOT plans for most construction activities to take place off US 93, minimizing disruption for motorists. Initial steps involve clearing space for a work zone and mobilizing equipment in the area over the next few weeks.
The project, situated approximately 13 miles north of Wikieup, involves several key components:
- Construction of two new bridges over Cane Springs Wash and removal of an existing bridge at milepost 109.
- Installation and improvement of drainage and sediment-control facilities such as culverts, pipes, and ditches.
- Reconstruction of the intersection turnout at Upper Trout Creek Road.
This effort is part of ADOT's broader strategy to establish a four-lane divided highway from Wickenburg to Hoover Dam. A recent $26 million federal grant will extend another planned widening by 1.27 miles near Wickenburg Ranch Way, resulting in an additional 4.5 miles of four-lane highway. This segment connects with a project completed in late 2024 that widened five miles in Wickenburg.
Additionally, construction continues on a $106 million interchange connecting US 93 and Interstate 40 in Kingman, aimed at reducing traffic delays on this major route between Las Vegas and Arizona.
Future plans include widening projects scheduled for fiscal years 2027 and 2028 between mileposts 161.7 and 166.2 around Big Jim Wash. Another project set for fiscal year 2026 involves adding passing lanes between mileposts 171.5-173 and 175.5-177.
