Improvement projects will cause closures and lane restrictions on Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The scheduled restrictions include a closure of eastbound Interstate 10 between State Route 51 and US 60 as work continues on the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

A major closure is set for eastbound I-10 between SR 51 ("Mini-Stack" interchange) and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for work related to the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Several ramps will also be closed, including those from Third Street to Baseline Road and the southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10. The southbound I-17 connection to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport will also be closed.

The primary detour for eastbound I-10 traffic approaching the closure involves taking eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and using either southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to reach their destination. Another option is detouring via southbound/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway).

Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between 51st and 59th avenues from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday due to lighting work as part of a widening project.

The westbound I-10 ramp to eastbound US 60 will be closed from Friday night until Monday morning for continued work on the same improvement project. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during this time.

Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will also see lane reductions near Arizona Avenue over the weekend, with only two lanes open from Friday night until Sunday evening due to another widening project.

Additionally, there will be closures affecting southbound SR 143, including its ramp leading onto westbound Loop 202, for barrier wall repairs starting Friday night through Saturday afternoon.

ADOT notes that schedules may change due to weather or other factors. These projects are part of ADOT's efforts under the Regional Transportation Plan funded by Proposition 400, with future funding secured through Proposition 479 approved by voters in November.

Real-time highway conditions can be checked on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site or via their mobile app.
