Senate President Warren Petersen, along with other state lawmakers, will meet with over 100 short-term vacation rental hosts at the Arizona Capitol on Thursday. The gathering aims to highlight the contributions of the industry to tourism and the state's economy.
"Short-term rentals create economic opportunities for Arizona hosts and their families while boosting tourism and supporting tens of thousands of good jobs across our state," stated President Petersen. "This is a tremendous success story that proves we can honor private-property rights while protecting neighborhoods and communities." He expressed pride in standing with Arizonans who represent the entrepreneurial spirit that strengthens Arizona.
The event, named Short Term Rental Day at the Arizona Capitol, is organized by Arizonans for Responsible Tourism (AZRT). This grassroots advocacy group represents short-term rental hosts, operators, and travel industry partners throughout Arizona. AZRT members will receive formal recognition from legislators in both the Arizona House and Senate.
"This is Arizona’s prime tourism season, and short-term rental hosts across our state are working hard and welcoming guests with a unique experience they can’t get anywhere else," said AZRT President Jonathan Wicks. He emphasized their role as responsible residents who contribute significantly to Arizona's tourism economy. Wicks also thanked lawmakers for their ongoing support.
According to a 2022 economic-impact study, short-term rentals support over 75,000 jobs annually and generate more than $500 million in tax revenue for state and local governments.
