Arizona Public Service (APS) is addressing rising temperatures across the state by providing customers with tips to save on energy costs. With thermometers anticipating highs of 100 degrees in some areas, APS has shared a checklist designed to increase home efficiency and decrease energy bills.

Key among their recommendations is ensuring a home's HVAC system is serviced. “A well-maintained HVAC system operates more efficiently, uses less energy and saves money,” APS stated in their announcement. Arizona residents are encouraged to use APS's Qualified Technology Installers webpage to find reliable contractors.

For those with smart thermostats, APS advises adjusting settings in line with personal schedules to enhance energy efficiency. APS also suggests a strategy called "pre-cooling" for customers on specific Time-of-Use rate plans. They recommend setting thermostats lower before peak afternoon hours, then setting them higher during peak demands.

Exploring the most cost-effective rate plan is another path to savings. APS offers plan comparisons on bills, with further consultations available through their Customer Care Center.

APS also promotes the APS Cool Rewards program. Participants allow their smart thermostats to be part of an energy demand management program during peak periods. Participants can earn up to $85 and receive a $35 bill credit annually.

LED lighting is another avenue for reducing energy usage. APS notes, “LEDs consume up to 90% less energy, last up to 25 times longer and emit less heat.”

Ceiling fan direction is another simple adjustment for energy savings. Blades should spin counterclockwise in warmer months to maximize cooling.

For managing sunlight and heat, APS recommends closing curtains and blinds, particularly in sun-exposed rooms.

Regular air filter maintenance is also highlighted. APS advises setting monthly reminders for clean or change notifications.

Additionally, APS provides free Virtual Energy Checkups where customers can receive personalized advice via their smartphones or tablets.

For financial planning, APS offers various billing assistance options, including Budget Billing for yearly average payment leveling, assistance programs for qualifying low-income customers, and flexible payment arrangements.

APS continues to offer different tools and programs tailored to customer needs through their website.
