Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) was in no mood to beat around the bush as he straightforwardly branded the HR 1 Bill as a "bad bill."
"What it does is nationalize federal elections and brings all state and local elections to Washington, D.C., as well. The last thing America needs is for the inefficient federal bureau bureaucracy to start controlling your state and local elections," Biggs said.
The HR 1 Bill, otherwise known as the For the People Act, aims to expand voting rights, limit partisan gerrymandering and modify campaign financing to limit the influence of money in politics.
The bill is also seen as a top priority of the Democratic House Majority. After being passed in the House of Representatives in 2019, the bill met opposition in the Senate mainly from Republicans led by Sen. Mitch McConnell who guaranteed that the bill will not "go anywhere in the Senate."
While explaining his position on the HR 1 Bill, Biggs added "The last thing America needs is for the inefficient federal bureaucracy to control our state and local elections. I'll be voting no on this legislation."
