Arizona Secretary of State issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) reminds individual income and corporate taxpayers who received a 2020 calendar year tax filing extension--and have not yet filed--have until Friday, October 15 to submit their tax returns. Fiduciary Arizona returns were due September 30, 2021.

A filing extension provides additional time to file from the due date; five months to file individual returns, six months for corporate returns, and five and half months for fiduciary returns.

The original due date for calendar year partnership and S corporation returns was March 15, 2021, and the extended due date for both the federal and the Arizona calendar year partnership and S corporation returns was September 15, 2021.

The IRS extension provides additional time to file federal and Arizona returns. The calendar year, federal, and Arizona individual and corporate returns (except S Corporations) are due October 15, 2021, and calendar year fiduciary returns were due September 30, 2021.

More than 178,000 individuals and 103,000 corporations received an extension for 2020 tax year returns from the state.

ADOR advises taxpayers to double-check their tax returns to ensure no information is missing and recommends e-filing the Arizona return when e-filing the federal return. Individual, corporate, and partnership e-filing is available and reduces the time to process and amount of paper needed to submit complex and lengthy returns.

Make individual income tax payments on AZTaxes.gov(link is external). It does not require registration.

Corporate income tax payments can also be made on AZTaxes.gov(link is external), but registration is required.

Check out ADOR’s tutorial for payment assistance.

In addition to taxpayers using approved software or a tax preparer, options for individual income taxpayers include:

  • Free File Alliance. Low-income, active military personnel and EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) eligible taxpayers, as well as seniors or students, can take advantage of the Free File Alliance. This is a partnership between the Arizona Department of Revenue and a consortium of tax preparation software companies that provide free state and federal tax preparation with e-filing services to qualified Arizona taxpayers.
  • AARP Tax-Aide Program. AARP Tax-Aide(link is external) offers free assistance to help individuals electronically file federal and Arizona returns. The AARP Tax-Aide is dedicated to assisting senior citizens and low-to-middle income taxpayers in filing their personal income tax returns for free.
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). The VITA Program(link is external) offers free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.
