Gallego calls out Cruz's ineptitude after school shooting: ‘F--- you @tedcruz'

Arizona Democrat Ruben Gallego took to Twitter to vent his anger after the May 24 school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX, aiming specifically at Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

"F--- you @tedcruz,” he Tweeted on May 24, “you care about a fetus but you will let our children get slaughtered. Just get your ass to Cancun. You are useless."

According to a report by AZcentral, Gallego sent out a series of profanity-laced tweets in response to Cruz’s claims that politicians would try to “politicize” the killings to push for gun control. The Cancun remark was made in reference to a trip Cruz took to Cancun in 2021 while Texas endured massive blackouts after a winter storm.

According to the article, Cruz was quoted as telling CNN that “Inevitably when there's a murderer of this kind, you see politicians try to politicize it, you see Democrats and a lot of folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens,” sparking outrage from Gallego, who didn’t stop with Cruz.

When Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) Tweeted "Our thoughts and prayers are with these families" in response to a statement by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Gallego hit back at him as well.

"F--- your prayers. They haven’t worked for the last 20 mass shootings,” he said in a Tweet. “How about passing laws that will stop these killings(?)"

Gallego then went after Arizona Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema after she responded to the killings.

"We are horrified and heartbroken by the senseless tragedy unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Texas and grateful to the first responders for acting swiftly,” she said in a Tweet. “No families should ever have to fear violence in their children's schools."

Gallego responded, citing a bill that stalled in the Senate that would have gun dealers as mediators of private gun sales, allowing them to do background checks on gun sales between individuals.

“Please just stop,” Gallego said, responding to Sinema’s Tweet. “Unless you are willing to break the filibuster to actually pass sensible gun control measures you might as well just say ‘thoughts and prayers.’”
