• A new report finds that the market for sinus dilation devices is expected to grow by almost 3 billion dollars between 2021 and 2030.
• Those figures represent a compound annual growth rate of 10.8% from 2022 to 2030.
• Sinus dilation devices are used in balloon sinuplasty, which is quick and comfortable when compared to older sinus surgeries.
A report published by Globe Newswire said that the market for sinus dilation devices -- which are used in balloon sinuplasty procedures to treat chronic sinusitis -- is expected to grow from $1.9 billion in 2021 to $4.78 billion by 2030. That is a compound annual growth rate of 10.8%.
"Most of the patients, by the time they get to a specialist's office, they've already been through the basic stuff: the allergy medications, the nasal sprays, antibiotics and steroids," Scottsdale Sinus and Allergy Center's Dr. Brian Lee told Grand Canyon Times. "So that's usually the first level of treatment options. The next step up the ladder would be some type of procedural intervention, like balloon sinuplasty. This procedure is great, because it not only replaces the sinus surgery that's traditionally been done for the past 30 years, but it allows us to intervene earlier in the disease process. With the balloon sinuplasty, because it's so safe, it's minimally invasive, the downtime is so minimal, it allows us to intervene even for patients with mild disease and to really improve their quality of life."
Sinusitis is an extremely common ailment, and doctors have found balloon sinuplasty to be a highly effective procedure for treating it due to its minimally invasive and highly effective nature. Procedures involving a balloon used to dilate the sinuses have proven to be safe and effective, presenting a great option for patients who've struggled to manage their sinusitis with medication alone.
Globe Newswire's report predicted that medical companies such as Stryker will continue to work to improve their sinus dilation devices, which will, in turn, increase the public demand for them.
Chronic sinusitis is a common condition found in both adults and children, according to Mayo Clinic. It occurs when the sinus lining is inflamed for three months or longer, which can lead to symptoms such as congestion, discharge, postnatal drainage, facial pain and pressure, headaches, earaches, sore throat and fatigue. Those who suffer from asthma or allergies are at a high risk of developing chronic sinusitis. Those who've been experiencing the aforementioned symptoms for 10 days or more are encouraged to visit a doctor.
According to the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, a typical balloon sinuplasty procedure takes only 10 to 15 minutes, with patients recovering within one to two days. Most patients will also be able to resume their normal daily activities during that time period, although they may experience minor swelling for up to a week. During the procedure, an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician will insert a tiny balloon into the sinus and inflate it until the sinus reaches its optimal size. The process allows blockages to be drained out of the sinus passages, which are then flushed with a saline solution to remove any remaining bacteria or mucus.
