House subcommittees converged in Tucson, highlighting a sharp rise in illegal crossings and pressing humanitarian concerns as Arizona emerges as the new epicenter for U.S. southern border migration challenges.

"It is vital that the Biden administration continues to take steps to deter illegal immigration and reduce the impact of human trafficking on vulnerable children," Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs Chairman Glenn Grothman said in the press release.

On Aug. 8, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability's Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs held a hearing in the Tucson sector of the U.S. southern border. The hearing, titled "Biden's Border Crisis and its Effect on American Communities," highlighted concerns regarding the recent surge in illegal crossings and the humanitarian issues associated with migration patterns.

Grothman, in his opening statement, criticized the Biden administration for what he described as "failed policies that caused a catastrophe along our southwest border." He brought attention to the significant rise in apprehensions, noting that the Border Patrol detained over 40,000 people who crossed the border illegally in the Tucson sector in July alone, marking the highest in 15 years.

Stressing the widespread implications of illegal immigration, Grothman criticized the Biden administration for their policies. He called attention to the five Congressional hearings held by the House Oversight Committee regarding the border, plus seven interviews with chief patrol agents from the southwest border areas.

The chairman also detailed the mismanagement of unaccompanied alien children by the Biden administration, with many facing abuse and forced labor to repay smuggling debts. The priority seemed to be the speed of resettling these children over their safety, Grothman said.

Grothman also underscored the broader implications of these crossings.
