The founder of the League of American Workers said the 19,400 illegal migrant apprehensions in the Tucson Sector of Arizona’s border with Mexico shows that the border is “effectively vaporized.”

“Biden’s border disaster sets all the wrong kinds of records, as Arizona’s border gets effectively vaporized,” Cortes told the Grand Canyon Times. “Americans in Arizona and across our homeland suffer the consequences of a lawless border, including unjust and unlawful competition in the job market against citizens.”

“Biden’s open border between Mexico and Arizona threatens America’s prosperity, street safety, and national security,” said Cortes.

John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol's Tucson Sector, said yesterday that there were 19,400 apprehensions of illegal migrants in the Tucson Sector during this past week. Additionally, there were there were 155 federal criminal cases, 15 rescues, 13 human smuggling events, six narcotics events, and four events involving "convicted sex offenders."

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last month announced the temporary closure of the Lukeville, Ariz. Port of Entry, due to the surge in illegal border crossings.

The closure, which has no set date for reopening, has impacted both sides of the border and has resulted in travelers having to use alternative ports of entry, such as Nogales or San Luis, adding hours to their journeys.

U.S. Border Patrol, a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security, is responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates in 328 ports of entry and protects 7,000 miles of land borders and 95,000 miles of maritime borders.

One of the nine sectors of the U.S.-Mexico border is the Tucson Sector, which covers 262 border miles and includes all of the Arizona-Mexico border and parts of the California-Mexico border. This sector employs a multi-layered approach to border security, utilizing a combination of technology, infrastructure, and personnel to prevent illegal cross-border activity, including the smuggling of drugs and people.
