The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced several freeway travel restrictions in the Phoenix area over the upcoming weekend. These highway adjustments are part of ongoing improvement projects as well as regular maintenance activities.

One major closure involves eastbound Interstate 10 (I-10), which will be inaccessible between the State Route 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 4 a.m. This closure is to facilitate a traffic shift for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Additionally, eastbound I-10 on-ramps from Third Street and Baseline Road, and southbound connections from I-17 and SR 143 to eastbound I-10, will be closed. Detour routes include eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and the southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to either US 60 or Loop 202 (Santan Freeway). An alternate detour via southbound/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to reach I-10 near Chandler Boulevard is also available.

Moreover, the westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be shut down between Alma School and Dobson roads from late Saturday to early Sunday. This closure is required for the removal of a message sign as part of a widening project. Eastbound Loop 202's HOV lane will also face temporary restrictions.

State Route 347 is reduced to one lane in both directions overnight at Cement Plant Road and the Gila River Bridge, with similar restrictions at Casa Blanca Road over Sunday and Monday nights for pavement maintenance. Extra travel time is recommended, and drivers are advised to merge safely in these areas.

The schedule may be adjusted due to weather conditions or other influencing factors. ADOT is executing these projects under the Regional Transportation Plan, funded in part by Proposition 400, a sales tax initiative reaffirmed last November by the passage of Proposition 479.

For up-to-date highway conditions, travelers can consult ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site, the az511 app, or dial 511.
